The Art, Science and Policy Task Force (ASAP) will  generate greater collaboration with a diverse array of artists with an aim to encourage the use of arts as an effective way to communicate deep-sea science (and knowledge) to policy-makers and other stakeholders, with a view to support informed decision-making.

The dedicated efforts of ASAP will facilitate further exchange of views, sharing of experiences, as well as create a platform where deep-sea scientists and policy experts can interact and collaborate with artists in order to communicate policy-oriented messaging to inform and influence decision-making and ensure that ocean policy directions are underpinned by robust science. Arts are increasingly used as one of several tools to enhance ambition in the context of ocean governance, and is particularly useful for bringing the less-known deep sea to the attention of policy-makers.

ASAP aims to stimulate creative thinking among DOSI network members (and perhaps even bring out the talented artists from within them). Ultimately, raising awareness about the challenges that the deep sea is facing through expressions and emotions, and to touch those who are not spontaneously interested in science, is our goal.
