DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

Deep-sea mining is back in the headlines with the news that attendees at the IUCN World Congress voted overwhelmingly in favour of a mining moratorium. A powerful Time magazine article and video wades into the wider debate with commentary from DOSI’s Diva Amon, as well as Pradeep Singh and Saleem Ali, both of whom featured in our co-hosted Treasures of the Deep webinar earlier in the year. The August lull is well and truly over, and with the 16th DSBS and the second Ocean Decade Laboratory: A Predicted Ocean, both about to start, there are plenty of events to keep the deep-sea community busy. A number of deadlines have been extended, including for the Ocean Decade Advisory Board (wouldn’t it be great to have a deep-sea person onboard?) and IPBES nominations for the nexus and transformative assessments.
