Communications Manager for the Deep-Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI)

Job Description
The DOSI Office is seeking a Communications Manager to work remotely (i.e., from the job-holder’s home/office). The Communications Manager works closely with other DOSI Office staff (consisting of the Executive Director, Programme Officer and Digital Officer), as well as liaising with the Advisory Board, Working Group Leads and Steering Committee. The role also involves engaging with the wider DOSI network of members and subscribers, and with the general public.
The Communications Manager develops, implements and delivers a multidisciplinary and multiplatform communications programme for DOSI. The main tasks include the coordination, co-creation and oversight of published outputs (e.g., policy briefs, manuscripts, official comments, formal statements, videos, newsletters, podcasts, press releases), offering guidance on best practices to DOSI members involved in such activities, building and maintaining good working relationships with other ocean policy and science programmes, and managing/responding to external enquiries about DOSI and its activities. The job-holder is also an integral member of the DOSI Office, contributing to its role as secretariat, which may include but is not limited to organising, hosting and reporting of internal meetings, assisting with communications and logistics amongst members, and representing DOSI at external meetings.
Qualifications and Key Skills
Essential
- A university degree in Communication, Environmental Science or related field.
- Successful track record in a similar role – ideally marine science related.
- Excellent verbal and writing communication skills in English.
- Strong IT skills and good working knowledge of common desktop applications and communication platforms (e.g., MS Office, graphic design, video editing, WordPress, MailChimp, X, Facebook, LinkedIn).
- Enthusiasm for global deep-ocean science and the DOSI mission to advance science in policy.
- Ability to work both in a team and independently with a flexible and proactive approach.
- Strong organisational and time-keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to produce engaging content.
Desirable
- Experience supporting events online (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom) and in person.
- Experience with deep-ocean research and/or policy
- Familiarity with ocean literacy/fluency and SciCom outreach activities.
- Knowledge and understanding of international ocean issues, policy and governance.
- Experience of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders from across the world.
