DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

Juvenile fish (Centrolophus sp.) swim around the bell of a Stygiomedusa gigantea, commonly known as the giant phantom jelly, which Argentinian scientists aboard RV Falkor (too) observed at 250 m. Their bell can grow up to 1 m in diameter, and their arms can reach up to 10 m long. To prove its popularity, the giant phantom recently won the Deep-Sea Showdown over on the DOSI Instagram page! This week: DOSI welcomes new Steering Committee members! Plus new research on the effect of El Nino on the Galapagos’ cold-water corals.
