DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

This newly discovered, 1200m-tall seamount in the Ascension Island Marine Protected Area has an area of about 80 square km; a similar size as the city of Plymouth, UK. The seamount was found during an October-December expedition of RRS Discovery as part of the Blue Belt Programme, in coordination with Challenger 150. More fascinating pictures from the cruise can be found on Twitter under the hashtag #DY159. Image credit: Blue Belt Programme. You can see this and more deep-sea images shared through DOSI on our Flickr Page. A guide for sharing your own images through our network can be found here.
Welcome to the end of another important year in deep-ocean science, exploration, and policy! This final Round-Up of 2022 features cold-water corals, deep-sea tardigrades, and endemism at hydrothermal vents. We’re also sharing a job opening for a Professor of Deep-Sea Biological Oceanography, along with two conservation-minded letters seeking signatures from scientists. Thanks for joining us on our deep-sea journeys this year. We’re looking forward to seeing you again when we return on January 5th!
