DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

According to NOAA Ocean Exploration, this “squee-worthy” bobtail squid was observed resting along the eastern wall of McMaster Canyon, approximately 80 miles southeast of Long Island, USA. Welcome! We’re so glad to have you join us for another week of the latest from the deep sea. We start off this issue with the recording of DOSI’s expert panel at the UN Ocean Conference, Biodiversity for a Resilient Planet: A Deeper Look. Then we launch into new papers, including an exciting new assessment of benthic megafauna living in the Western Clarion-Clipperton Zone.
There’s fresh news too: We especially recommend the articles on Dawn Wright (Deepsea Dawn) and her recent dive to the Challenger Deep, along with a new hydrothermal vent field discovered in the East Pacific. As for job opportunities, we’re featuring positions with the Moore SMART Cable Project and a new opening for a Global Oceans Lead Scientist with WWF.
Finally, scroll to the end for some fascinating drawings created by artist Damien Roudeau while aboard the MoMARSAT 2022 cruise last month. Enjoy!
