This anglerfish art was created by Frieda Verlage of Moku Art Studio. Over the next month, Moku Art Studio is inviting artists to participate in Under the Sea, an art exhibition and an endorsed UN Ocean Decade activity. As part of the project, Moku Art Studio is also seeking quotes from ocean scientists about the importance of their work. More details are available in the “Wanted” section of this Round-Up. Welcome to the Leap Day edition of the Round-Up! Thanks for spending part of your extra day this year with DOSI. Today’s issue features a call from Moku Art Studio inviting both artists and scientists to participate in Under the Sea, an art exhibition and an endorsed UN Ocean Decade Activity. We’re also highlighting new research on deep-ocean sponges, a new edition of the World Ocean Atlas, and a job opportunity with the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS.) Finally, scroll to the end for free access to Our World Ocean: Essentials Edition, an introductory oceanography textbook surveying ocean science as practiced in the 21st century.
