Deep-sea mining features heavily in the news over the last week, particularly in The Guardian (UK), with not one, or two, but three articles addressing this important issue. The same paper also features an article by marine biologist Helen Scales on the relevance of the deep sea in fighting future pandemics. All in all, the message is: the deep sea is important, don’t mess with it. Hagfishes also get a look in with a recent study on their impressive slime. New opportunities in MGR and Fisheries.
