Deep-Sea Round-Up
This bumper issue is kicked off by the exciting news that Diva Amon will be joining the DOSI Executive team. This is a formal recognition of a role Diva has been carrying out for some time, and we welcome her dynamic, insightful and warm energy to the board. Also news that our Song of the Ocean collaboration has been endorsed as an official UN Decade of Ocean Science Activity; in light of this, and to give more people around the world the chance to join in, we have extended the submission deadline until the 26th April – so please #SingForTheOcean!
Deep-sea biodiversity is under the spotlight with a review of the different methodologies used to examine biodiversity, a separate paper further exploring the use of eDNA as a biodiversity estimation tool and a new paper establishing the diversity of molluscs in the Gulf of Mexico. In a blog post, DOSI Advisory Board member and blue finance expert Torsten Thiele makes the case for an international “Ocean Plan”.
The International Seabed Authority launches two deep-sea art competitions in advance of World Ocean Day 2021. Plus there are LOADS of events coming up worth registering for, including the live launch of the Second World Ocean Assessment (WOA II). If it’s opportunities you’re after, there’s both voluntary and paid roles. Enjoy the read!
