DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

It’s been a VERY busy week in the deep-sea community! But there was also recognition for hard work, and it was an honour for DOSI to be highlighted alongside our very own Dr Maria Baker and other amazing Deep-Sea Heroes in the deep-sea special issue of ECO Magazine. Also this week, a team of international scientists, led by DOSI Decade working group co-leads, Kerry Howell and Ana Hilario, called for a dedicated decade-long programme – named Challenger 150 – to advance discovery in the deep sea, in alignment with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development from 2021-30. Furthermore, AOSIS launched a report highlighting the important role of Small Island Developing Nations in the success of the BBNJ treaty, co-authored by DOSI co-lead Harriet Harden-Davies. PLUS DOSI is launching an open access task force, to see how we can encourage the deep-sea community to bypass the paywall with a view to advancing research, improving decision-making, encouraging innovation and moving towards greater equality. All this and much, much more! Get the full round of deep-sea updates at the link below. ENJOY!
