NOAA Ocean Exploration found this octopus during Dive 08 of the Seascape Alaska 5 expedition. It flashed the deep reddish purple seen here before turning completely white within seconds. More deep-sea photos shared through DOSI can be found on our Flickr page. You can share your own amazing images through the Round-Up here.
In this week’s Round-Up, we feature events at the UN Climate Change Conference, next week’s DOSI webinar on the high seas treaty, and a professorship at the University of Florida. There’s also new plenty of exciting research to share, including a new paper on hydrothermal vent protection. Finally, scroll to the end for a fascinating tool that shows how much of any country’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) contains deep ocean.
Your Round-Up team will be attending COP28 for the next two weeks, but the Round-Up will return on January 4th after a holiday break. Until then, happy reading!
