Welcome to the final Deep-Sea Round-Up of 2021! We’re excited to celebrate a great year in deep-sea science and policy in our community. This week, we start our Round-Up with some wonderful art by Yves Henocque. Then we move into our “Hot off the Press” articles, covering topics like distribution of microplastics in canyons, seamount fauna, and a particularly voracious cold-water coral.
In deep-sea mining, all eyes have been on the International Seabed Authority’s December meeting, which has produced a surge in media. Other topics in the news include a featured blog by a marine biologist aboard the RV Sonne, new barreleye footage, and the second footballfish to wash up on San Diego beaches in the past month.
Make sure to review our Events and Opportunities sections for conferences, PhD opportunities, and two curator positions focused on marine invertebrates, and take a look at the Wanted section to read about our call for submissions for Deep Sea Life issue 18. Finally, we are excited to announce that DOSI will be collaborating with well-known science YouTube channel Natural World Facts in the new year, so scroll to the end of the Round-Up to watch one of their fascinating documentaries to prepare!
