DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

10 November 2022

This week, DOSI members started sharing crucial information about the deep ocean’s importance in climate policy at COP27 in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt. In this picture, (from left to right) Dr. Lisa Levin, Dr. Isa Elegbede, Dr. Sarah Seabrook, Michelle Guraieb, Olivia S. Pereira, and Dr. Narissa Bax pose for a photo after their side event “The Deep Sea, the Climate, and the Next Generation.” You can see deep-sea images shared through DOSI on our Flickr Page. A guide for sharing your own images through our network can be found here.

There’s plenty to talk about in the Deep-Sea Round-Up this week, from the deep ocean community’s actions at COP27 to the latest meetings on the future of the deep seabed. DOSI’s Fisheries Working Group has just released a new policy brief on improving impact assessments for deep-ocean bottom fisheries, and there’s new research on deep-sea worms that feed on leaves from the surface. If you have some free time, make sure to scroll to the end to watch a recording of a COP27 side event featuring early career deep-ocean researchers titled “The Deep Sea, the Climate, and the Next Generation.”
