DOSI Deep-Sea Round-Up

This Carrier Crab was spotted carrying a piece of coral during the first dive of the second Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition at a depth of 574 meters. This behaviour may be a defence mechanism to ward off predators. Image courtesy of NOAA Ocean Exploration Voyage to the Ridge 2022. More deep-sea photos shared through DOSI can be found on our Flickr page. You can share your own amazing images through the Round-Up here.
This week’s Round-Up features new research on life in the Clarion-Clipperton zone, dolphin falls, deep-sea ecosystem services, and more! There are also some noteworthy opportunities: Schmidt Ocean Institute has opened its call for Expressions of Interest for collaborative research aboard R/V Falkor (too), and early-career readers in the United States should review the call to join the US Early Career Ocean Professional node.
